Academy+ Fund is an exciting new initiative that plays a key part in our ambition to provide our children with the extra skills and experiences they need to have a further 70 great years after they leave the Academy.
We have called it Academy+ Fund because it provides support in a way that the standard curriculum and school budgets do not. Each year the DFE (Department for Education) send us an amount of money per child and we use this money in the best way possible to give our children the education they need, but perhaps not the education they deserve - we aspire to do much more.
The '+' element of the initiative comes back to parents, businesses, alumni, students and charities. All the money we raise through Academy+ Fund will enable us to pursue the broader education, that we believe our children need, to be the best they can be. This money will be used to raise resilience in our children to allow them to face down some of life's toughest challenges, but it will also be used to develop the character of our children by giving them the experiences in life that can't be taught in a normal classroom.

This is the first time we will have set up such an initiative but we are not alone. The private sector in education has professional fundraising at their core for exactly the same reason as we are doing this now.
We have never directly asked parents, businesses, alumni, students and charities for help with funding our school before and the decision to do so was not an easy one. If you are in a position to be able to offer us some support you will receive regular updates via email, our website and social media to see exactly where your money is going and the impact it is having on the lives of our children.
However much you are able to donate, we can assure you that all funds raised will go towards continuing to improve the level of education you have come to expect from us and it will enable us to re-double our efforts to try to make sure that your children have 70 or more great years of living after they leave our care.

How your Academy+ donations are used
Project Flavour
Project Flavour teaches an appreciation of ingredients and nutrition, as well as developing practical cooking skills that students can employ throughout their life.
It is our goal that every student leaves The Samworth Church Academy with the ability to cook healthy, delicious meals, a skill that will help them throughout their adult life.
Students taking part in ‘Project Flavour’ have enjoyed visits to The School of Artisan Food, where they tried their hand at Ukrainian pancakes and creating their own sausages from scratch. They have also learnt the art of fire-making and bushcraft with ‘Way Back Skills’.
Student Ava, Year 8 said, “I really like Project Flavour as I like the freedom it gives you to make and try new foods. Also, I like how you get to grow things individually and help out and use recipes at home and show our carers. It's taught me how to use things in the kitchen that I didn't know before.”
