GCSE Art and Design provides students with a wide range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests in ways that are both personally relevant and developmental in nature.

  • Do you want to use the skills you have gained and explore new ones?
  • Are you prepared to work hard to produce exciting and creative, well produced Art work?
  • Do you want to find out why Art has been important to many people from different countries and societies?

If the answer to any of the above is YES, then it may be a good idea to choose Art for one of your options.

The GCSE Art and Design (Fine Art) Course will give you the opportunity to explore many different crafts, media and techniques within the Art Department.

Amongst the media you may study are: Painting and Drawing, Graphics, Digital media, Textiles, Pottery, Sculpture, Printmaking and History of Art and Design.

Your final grade will be made up of a coursework mark, which is worth 60% of your final grade, and an externally set exam, which is worth 40% of your final grade.

In your coursework portfolio, you need to show that you have worked using the media listed above, but you can specialise in your favourite. We have designed the course so that the projects are varied and creative, building a portfolio of different styles and skills that will prepare you well for further study at post 16.
