Sixth Formers and staff at the Samworth Church Academy raised a brilliant £143.55 for Macmillan Cancer Support last week. We are very proud of our Sixth Formers who organised the Macmillan Coffee Morning. One of our Sixth Formers shared their experience of Macmillan Cancer Support in their life:

My mum is now one year cancer free, so our journey started not long over twelve months ago. On the 11^th of April 2023, my mum got her diagnosis of breast cancer. As you can imagine, finding out this news broke mine and my sister's heart. I found this out at the age of 15, I found it exceedingly difficult to try and juggle my schoolwork and being a young carer. School became my distraction from my day-to-day life.

My mum woke up every morning trying to keep a smile on her face for me and my sister but after being told life-changing news we know she was not okay. Macmillan was a massive help with my mum’s mental health and brought the happy-go-lucky her back. My mum is the glue to our family and always knows how to cheer me and my sister up. She would not have been able to do that without her mental health coming first.

When I got asked what Macmillan means to me the first thing that came to mind was my mum's happiness and how she would not be the happiest version of herself without Macmillan caring about her mental health. My mum is someone who always puts everyone else’s happiness before her own, but ever since Macmillan helped, she cares about her own happiness as much as ours.

 

Studying at the Samworth Academy is about more than studying for exams - although we do offer a wide range of academic and vocational options for our 16-18 year old students.
