Students will choose their specialism and respond to a brief.

There are 4 units; 3 mandatory and 2 are externally set.

This course supports further progression in art and design education, to an Apprenticeship or entry level employment in the creative industries sector.

 

A* - B in GCSE Art

A* - C in BTEC Art

Skills gained/developed

Year 12/13

  • Students develop art and design projects and gain an understanding of the creative process in a broad range of media.
  • They study visual recording and communication, critical analysis and production skills to   produce art and design outcomes in response to given briefs.
 

Assessment Methods

GCE A Level

Each specialism is made up of two components: a Personal investigation (60%) and an Externally set task (40%) that is completed in Year 13.

Work is internally assessed in both years and externally moderated in Year 13.

 

Students gaining a Subsidiary Diploma, or Diploma in Art and Design can go on to study on an Art Foundation Course.  Students gaining an Extended Diploma in Art and Design can apply straight to a degree course.

There are a wide range of careers open to students with an Arts degree, ranging from Fashion Design, Interior Design, to Graphic Design and Web Design. It is a huge and expanding area for those who have the talent, ambition and commitment to succeed!
