Artist Workshops Led By Local Artist Exploring Mansfield's Textile Heritage
27 June 2017
Selected students from Year 10 have recently taken part in a series of workshops after school with local artist Clare Taylor.
Students were taught how to use image transfer processes onto fabric, how to incorporate stitch, crochet and collage. The work produced is part of a ‘Made in Mansfield’ project celebrating Mansfield’s heritage in the Textiles industries and will be collated with work created in other workshops by a wide range of people. Students learnt about the textiles factories and were able to look through old books and documents from the factory workers, transferring ideas into their art work.
The final outcome will resemble an old fashioned clothes airer and will be exhibited in Mansfield Museum in July before being exhibited here at TSCA. A film will also be produced, starring our students, which will be screened at a Mansfield cinema in October 2017.
