Mrs Vivienne Preece BSc(Hons), NPQH
Vice Principal, Sherwood School of Maths and Business
Appointed to the Senior Leadership Team of Sherwood Hall School in 2001, Viv Preece joined the team having previously been Head of Mathematics at the school. She was formerly Deputy Head of the Sixth Form at Swinton Comprehensive School, Rotherham. After graduation from Loughborough University of Technology in 1984 with a joint honours degree in Mathematics and Education, Viv went on to teach Mathematics at Clifton School in Rotherham before accepting a position of responsibility at Swinton School. She has taught Maths at KS3, GCSE and A level.

Mrs Melanie Cooper BEd, NPQH
Vice Principal, Newstead School of Communication
Melanie joined Sherwood Hall School as Head of Year in September 2001, on the reorganisation of Mansfield Schools. She later took up the role of Key Stage Leader and was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team in January 2007. Prior to joining Sherwood Hall School she was Head of Year and Lead Teacher of Art at Windmill Ridge Middle School, Mansfield. After graduating from Birmingham University in 1979 with a BEd in Art and Design with French as a second subject, she originally taught all subjects at Key Stage 2 at Berry Hill Middle School, Mansfield. She later gained promotion to the post of Head of Art at the same school. Melanie has taught Art from KS2 through to KS5 and English and French at KS2 and 3.

Mr Richard Wheatcroft
Vice Principal, Rufford School of Science and Technology
Appointed to the Senior Leadership Team of Sherwood Hall School in March 2005, Richie joined the team having previously been Head of Sixth Form at the school. He joined the school as a newly qualified teacher in 1995. Previously, Richie worked for Boots the Chemist in their pharmaceutical laboratories on Pennyfoot Street in Nottingham, researching into treatments for anti-hypertension and heart disease. During this time he graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Chemistry. He has taught Science at KS3 and GCSE, and Chemistry and Physics A level.

Mr Simon Fletcher BA(Hons), PGCE
Vice Principal, Welbeck School of Outdoor Education, Performing Arts and Sport
Simon took up the post in January 2008 and is relishing the opportunity of working in an Academy that will put Sport, Outdoor Education and the Performing Arts so high in its priorities. He has eighteen years of teaching experience as well as working as a full-time coach, a personal trainer and playing semi-professional football. He joins us from The Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough where he was the Director of Sport delivering a high quality programme which was supplemented by over 400 fixtures in a wide range of sports.

Mr Mark Roberts BSc
Finance Director
Mark joined the Academy in January 2008 having spent 17 years in various management roles at Nestlé UK Ltd, where he became the Factory Controller at their Newcastle branch. There, as well as being in charge of finance, he also led the site information technology and administration teams. Mark qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a firm in Wakefield before moving to a major firm of accountants. His interest in education started with his involvement with Young Enterprise where he led a project at a Newcastle special school to design and manufacture a gift selection box. He then became a Business Ambassador promoting links between local schools and business.

Mr Martin Brook BEd(Hons), MA
Vice Principal, Achievement Services
Martin has been in post since Easter and is looking forward to leading the Achievement Services team in their support of the five schools within the Academy. His team will provide personalised support to ensure that every student achieves, and will also oversee the transition of students from Year 6 into Year 7. He has joined the leadership team from Redhill School in Nottingham where he was Assistant Head Teacher with specific responsibility for student support. Martin has worked in Nottinghamshire for the last fifteen years including a role within the LEA working as a behaviour and attendance consultant. He has also held posts at Newark High School where he managed the school’s Learning Support Unit and at Beech Hill Special School in Mansfield.

Mrs Lisa McVeigh BA (Hons), PGCE
Vice Principal, Hardwick School of Humanities
Lisa joined Sherwood Hall School as a humanities teacher in 2002, later being appointed as Head of History and then Head of Humanities, later incorporating a four term secondment to the Senior Leadership Team. She began work in the Academy as Lead Teacher of Teaching and Learning in the Hardwick School and was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team in September 2009. She formerly taught at The Chafford School in the London Borough of Havering. After graduating from the University of East Anglia with an honours degree in History in 2000, she completed her teacher training at the Institute of Education, University of London. She has taught History, Geography and Religious Studies, including history at A-Level.
