Samworth Church Academy's Sporting Champions

Samworth Church Academy is celebrating more sporting wins in the form of a double county champion in hurdles and long jump and a Year 7 athletics team win in the Mansfield Schools Sports Partnership athletics competition held at Berry Hill two weeks ago. 

Year 9 student Beth Mortiboy previously won the long jump at the Mansfield Championships in may and was selected to represent Mansfield at the Nottinghamshire Championships at Harvey Stadium on 10th June.  On that day she also competed in the hurdles event, winning that and the long jump for her age group.  She will now compete, representing Nottingham at the English Schools Athletics Championship to be held in Gateshead in July.  speaking of her double win Beth said, "I am very happy with what I have achieved in both events and I am pleased to have been selected to represent Nottinghamshire in the long jump".

The Year 7 girls' team from Samworth Church Academy are also celebrating a win at the Mansfield Schools Partnership competition.  Individual winners were Amy Vernon in the long jump and Courtney Redfern in the high jump.  The team also won the indoor athletics competition in March this year.

Morag Rogers, Samworth Church Academy;s Lead Teacher for Outdoor Education said of the results, "We are very proud of the students achievements.  At the Academy, we aim to provide every student with the opportunity to fulfil their potential and excel both academically and through sporting achievements.  This has been demonstrated recently by some of our students in a range of sports including athletics.  We see sport and performing arts as the perfect vehicle for students to gain recongition for their achievements within the local and wider communities."
